 Product Description

Homosalate is an organic compound utilized in certain sunscreens. It is synthesized through the Fischer–Speier esterification process, combining salicylic acid with 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol, the latter being a hydrogenated derivative of isophorone. Present in 45% of sunscreens in the United States, homosalate functions as a chemical UV filter. The salicylic acid component of the molecule serves to absorb ultraviolet rays within the wavelength range of 295 nm to 315 nm, effectively shielding the skin from potential sun-induced damage. Additionally, the hydrophobic nature of the trimethylcyclohexyl group imparts a degree of oiliness, preventing its dissolution in water
